Users have caught on to the ease of use of having journals delivered right to the desktop and are demanding everything offered by libraries to be online. Online journals are now a big business and publishers are cashing in on the demand from the captivated audiences. Consequently, library budgets worldwide are struggling to keep up with the escalation in prices. In addition, currency fluctuations, once favorable to US academic libraries, have in the last several years, been very unfavorable, increasing prices yet again.

The UCHC library subscribes to journal titles with the following breakdown by publication origin, 30% domestic and 70% foreign. This is a direct result of recent consolidations and buyouts of domestic publishers by foreign publishers, significantly decreasing the number of domestic (USA) publishers and publications. Many USA based professional and scientific societies, also now choose to publish with foreign publishers, and these trends show no signs of reversing.

The following print journals subscribed to by the UCHC Library have been cancelled for 2005. Those journal titles whose subscriptions have been completely cancelled, will continue to be available to users through our Document Delivery program. The remaining titles have been resubscribed for 2005, but in the online format only, with no print backup, which will result in no access in the event of a site crash or Internet unavailability.
