Health Education Assets Library (HEAL), a national multimedia digital repository, was established in 2000 as a joint effort between three U.S. academic institutions: the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, University of Utah and the University of Oklahoma.
HEAL provides the following definition on its' homepage: "Health Education Assets Library is a digital library of freely accessible, web-based multimedia teaching materials that meet the needs of today's health sciences educators and learners. The HEAL collection currently contains a number of collections of multimedia resources for health sciences undergraduate and professional education, as well as resources for patient and consumer health."
Access to HEAL is freely available to anyone in the world. There are about 21,400 indexed medical images, videoclips, audioclips, web page links, animations or PDF documents in this peer-reviewed resource.
HEAL is a part of The National Science Digital Library initiative.
