The American Medical Association has teamed with the publisher McGrawHill to produce: JAMAevidence.

http://www.jamaevidence.com/

“JAMAevidence helps decision makers identify the best available evidence by providing guides to the systematic consideration of the validity, importance, and applicability of claims about the assessment of health problems and the outcomes of health care.”

Continually updated, JAMAevidence consists of the following texts:
Users' Guides to the Medical Literature: A Manual for Evidence-Based Clinical Practice, and The Rational Clinical Examination: Evidence-Based Clinical Diagnosis.

Users will also find the following helpful tools: education guides, PowerPoint slide sets aimed at instruction and learning of EBM concepts, an extensive glossary of EBM terms, calculators, worksheets and critical appraisal forms, information cycle forms and question wizards. Users may register to create: MyJAMAevidence: and save their work on all the above tools.

Additional content also includes podcasts of key EBM concepts, which have been recorded by subject-matter experts, and an RSS feed with the latest articles from JAMA.
The JAMAevidence mobile view features a portion of the site's content optimized for the unique size and speed constraints of mobile browsers. To that end, the following content is available in this view:
•"Quick Reference" pocket cards from Users' Guides to the Medical Literature
•"Make the Diagnosis" sections from The Rational Clinical Examination
The JAMAevidence mobile view is optimized for the following smartphones: iPhone original and 3G, BlackBerry 8300 series and higher (default browser only), Google's Android platform, and Palm Treo. The mobile site is available at http://m.jamaevidence.com.

Please be sure to let us know how you like this new information resource.

IMPORTANT REMINDER

Every user must register/re-register their Essential Evidence Plus application within 30 days of installing it to their device.

Here's why: Any user can access to Essential Evidence Plus simply by going through the first two steps of downloading and installing EE+ on their device; however, the third step in the process of accessing Essential Evidence Plus is then to register their application. Oftentimes, users will neglect this step and assume they have done all they need in order to have full access of Essential Evidence Plus for the year. Essential Evidence Plus can be accessed for 30 days after downloading without performing this third step and without registering; however, if users do not register within those 30 days, then their access to EE+ will stop.

To register/re-register, click on the link: http://www.essentialevidence plus.com/myaccount/inst_register.cfm

GOOGLE SCHOLAR/What it is/What it isn't
Thursday, November 5 - 1:00 to 2:30
Since 2004, the search engine known as Google Scholar scours the Web for links to scholarly papers, books, abstracts, technical reports and conference proceedings in broad academic disciplines. Google Scholar is a great way to find materials in the "hidden web" but should be searched in conjunction with our UConn subscription databases and journals. Learn more about how and when to use Google in this class.

ENDNOTE
Tuesday, November 10 - 10:30 to 12:00
Bibliographies made easy. Learn how to use this tool to search online bibliographic databases, organize the references and build lists of cited works automatically. It includes additional features such as unlimited storage capacity (number of references), Customized views & displays, Work Offline (anytime/anywhere), Local Personal Files and Documents, and many more.

PUBMED – BEYOND THE BASICS
Friday, November 20 - 1:00 to 2:30
This class focuses on searching PubMed with greater precision. Topics covered include using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), finding information in specific journals, locating systematic reviews or EBM articles with “Clinical Queries”, and storing search strategies on NLM’s server for re-execution at a later date. Attendees are expected to be familiar with the basics of PubMed.

Exam Master, a computer based system designed to provide realistic and effective exam preparation, recently revised the USMLE Step 2 and Step 3 Medical Subjects question banks. They have removed the Basic Sciences topic from both of these question banks, in an effort to ensure that users have a better and more focused study opportunity. This revision aims to make both of these question banks more pertinent to your studies.

Many of the Basic Science questions that were removed from the USMLE Step 2 and Step 3 Medical Subject question banks are available in Exam Master’s Medical Subject Review set of question banks, comprising over 6000 Basic Science questions. Our users will still find these questions useful for general studies or as a Basic Sciences refresher. Both the USMLE and the Medical Subject Review resources are available on our library’s USMLE Step 1, 2 and 3 (ExamMaster) Database page at http://libdatabase.uchc.edu/databases/databases.asp.
Please let us know how you like this important change to our USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 resources; just send an email to ref@nso.uchc.edu or call 679-4053.

This maintenance will begin at 11pm, Saturday October 10 and run until 5am, Sunday October 11.
The following online library services will be affected, the e-journal A-Z list and the FIND IT @UCHC link to full text buttons located in library databases. All databases are affected except PubMed, which is not connected to the SFX link to full text service.

Library users, who are using library resources during this night time outage, may find links to e-journals using 2 alternative methods. First, search our online catalog, located at the following URL: http://massey.uchc.edu/ to locate working links to journals.
Second, since PubMed uses LINKOUT, a separate link to full text service, all links to full text buttons in PubMed will be operational.
